I am a Christian, an ex-seminarian at that. My wife is a Muslim and remains one. When people meet us, they never fail to ask? “How do you make a mix-religion marriage work?”
Today we hope to answer that and many more questions in our appearance at the “News to Go” morning news hosted by multi-awarded and respected journalists Howie Severino and Kara David.
Yesterday, Ms Maree Aiko Dawn Lipat of GMA News Tv sent us questionnaires and one question was what was the significance of our union? Our reply was:
“The most interesting and significant part of our union is how we have used our unique union to deliver the message to both Christians and Muslims that inter-religious marriage can work and all it needs is love, maturity, mutual respect, understanding and patience. Through our Kristiyano-Islam Peace Library (www.krislibrary.com) literacy advocacy started in 2001, we built five Kris Libraries in Christian and Muslim areas, financed the schooling of 105 Christian and Muslim scholars, gave free computer and reading lessons; and made the Kris Libraries as places for Christians and Muslims to get together to study, become friends and learn to understand, live, respect and befriend each other. We also hold medical missions, distribute books and do relief missions in calamity areas to show that when Christians and Muslims unite for a common goal, great things can happen.”
But that is going ahead of the story and we will not tell you how we met, how our relatives on both sides reacted; how we manage to not let religion and culture cause friction; how our kids are raised with two religions and many more questions.
But we’ll give you a preview in this video last year when the same question was posed to Ms Shamcey Supsup who landed third runner-up in the 60th Miss Universe pageant held at the Credicard Hall in Sau Paolo, Brazil last year.
Happy Valentine’s Day to All!!!
